ATTENTION
Some of the pictures and stories shown on the following pages may be disturbing. In many of these cases, the stories are tragic. People have been seriously injured and in some instances, killed. Those involved frequently have suffered very significant, sometimes permanent injuries. The patients, their families, and their friends have all suffered
as a result of these events.

We often receive calls from patients or their families asking us about what happened during an incident. The following photos and stories are provided, similar to a newspaper account, for educational and informational purposes. It is our hope that through education, tragic incidents such as these can be prevented.

Every BVFD member that responded to the calls send their thoughts and condolences
to everyone affected by the incidents.

Motor Vehicle Accident with Entrapment

On Friday May 13th 2011 at 1402 hours Mineral County Communications alerted The Burlington Volunteer Fire Company on box 44-4 for the two vehicle accident with entrapment on Route 50. Rescue Engine 44 responded with 6, Ambulance 44-70 responded with 3 both responded. once crews arrived on the scene crews located a two vehicle accident with multiple entrapments and injury. The Route 50 command was established with Chief Tommy Simpson as OIC. Command advised of 3 entrapped in one vehicle and requested aviation. One patient was airlifted from the scene and additional avaition was requested however there none available. A total of 4 ambulances were on the scene as follows : New Creek Ambulance 38-70, Fountain 39-70, Tri-Towns 351 all were medic units. MCcoole Engine Rescue 23 assisted with the entrapment.

EMS local

On Monday May 2nd 2011 at 1050 hours Mineral County Communications alerted The Burlington Volunteer Fire Company for the EMS local a medical emergency at the Cheshire Residence in Antioch. Ambulance 44-70 responded with 3. once crews arrived on the scene it was determined that one patient needed transported to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center. Burlington volunteer's were assisted by New Creek and Tri-Towns Company 50.

Single Vehicle with Rollover

On Monday May 2nd 2011 at 0721 hours Mineral County Communications alerted The Burlington Volunteer Fire Company on rescue 44-1 for a single vehicle accident with rollover on Route 50 at the Ruritan building. Rescue Engine 44 responded with 3 and Ambulance 44-70 responded with 2. once crews arrived on the scene it was determined a log truck had rolled over on it's side crews obtained one signed patient refusal. The WV Department of Highways too control of the scene and all crews returned to service. Burlington volunteer's were assisted by Rescue 1 (Romney Fire) and Ambulance 11-70 (Romney Rescue Squad).

Fully Involved Mobile Home

On Thursday April 28th 2011 at 1530 hours Mineral County Communications alerted The Burlington Volunteer Fire Company on box 44-4 for the fully involved mobile home fire on Shirley's Lane. Tanker 44 responded with 3, Brush 44 responded with 3, Ambulance 44-70 responded with 2. once crews arrived on the scene it was determined the mobile home had been struck by lightning and was in a location not accesible with large apparatus. While fighting this fire there was severe thunderstorm occuring. Burlington volunteer's were assisted by New Creek Engine Tanker 38 and Tanker 38.

EMS local

On Wednesday April 27th 2011 at 1530 hours Mineral County Communications alerted The Burlington Volunteer Fire Company for the EMS local 44-3 a person trampled by a bull on Beaver Run Road. Rescue Engine 44 and Ambulance 44-70 both responded. once crews arrived on the scene it was determined the patient had suffered broken ribs and a punctured lung and required aviation for the fly out. Rescue Engine 44 established the landing zone. One patient was airlifted to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.

Station Transfer

On Wednesday April 27th 2011 at 1420 hours Mineral County Communications alerted The Burlington Volunteer Fire Company for the station transfer to the Moorefield Volunteer Fire Company Station 46. Engine Tanker 44 responded with 5 personnel and Tanker 44 responded with 2 personnel. Moorefield was currently out on a brush fire.

Mutual for the Residential Alarm Bells

On Saturday April 16th 2011 at 0914 hours Mineral County Communications alerted The Burlington Volunteer Fire Company for the residential automatic alarm on Hooker Hollow Road in the Willowbrook Estates. Engine Tanker 44 responded with 6 personnel. Units were cancelled enroute per Hooker Hollow Road command.

Residential Alarm Bells

On Wednesday April 13th 2011 at 1300 hours Mineral County Communications alerted The Burlington Volunteer Fire Company on box 44-4 for the residential automatic alarm on Russelldale Road. Rescue Engine 44 responded with 4 personnel. Units arrived on the scene to locate nothing. It was determined an alarm was tripped by a bug fogger. The assignment was returned to service.

Units responding : Rescue Engine 44 (Burlington), Tower 38, Engine Tanker 38 (New Creek), Fountain Company 39 was placed on in station stand by.

Fall from the Cliff

On Sunday April 10th 2011 at 0834 hours Mineral County Communications alerted The Burlington Volunteer Fire Company for the mutual assist to the Romney volunteer's for the fall from a cliff on School Street in Romney. Rescue Engine 44 responded with 4 personnel and 2 personnel remained on station. Units arrived on the scene to locate 3 subjects that had fallen from the cliff (1 Adult and 2 Children).

On Saturday April 9th 2011 at 0300 hours Mineral County Communications alerted The Burlington Volunteer Fire Company on Box 44-4 for the single vehicle accident on Russelldale Road. Utility 44 responded with 3 personnel. Units arrived on the scene to locate a single vehicle accident with no injuries. Crews assisted with traffic control only.

Single Vehicle Rollover

On Monday April 4th 2011 at 0126 hours Mineral County Communications alerted The Burlington Volunteer Fire Company for the single vehicle accident with rollover on Route 220 in Hampshire County . Rescue Engine 44 responded with 4 personnel, Ambulance 44-70 responded with 3 personnel, 8 personnel remined on station and 1 responded via POV. Units arrived on the scene to locate a single vehicle accident that had rolled over with 1 patient transported to Hampshire Memorial Hospital by Ambulance 11-70.
